Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society (KRCS) is a Public Welfare Associations based on volunteering and has its own independent entity as a national, humanitarian association. KRCS aims to provide humanitarian and charitable assistance to those who need it regardless of religion, sect, nationality, race, political and intellectual beliefs.The pillars of volunteerism have a positive influence on a child and teaches him/her the principles of giving at no charge, aiding the vulnerable, as well as responsibility and accountability.
Voluntary work is a broad, inclusive concept; but is generally defined as ‘the commitment of time and energy for the benefit of society, the community, the environment or individuals outside one’s immediate family. It is undertaken freely and by choice, without concern for financial gain.Voluntary work has great importance in the field of Public Welfare Associations, namely, it plays an positive role in developing the society and creating a feeling of loyalty and belonging within a community.
The government, represented in his Majesty the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, has, since the beginning, supported the KRCS and continues to do so, representing the highest spirit of giving.KRCS volunteers work in Kuwait as well as abroad where they assist in missions to aid war and natural disaster afflicted countries. At home, volunteers assist KRCS with helping vulnerable communities on food security, medicine, education among other things through visits and aid distribution. KRCS aims at spreading the spirit of volunteerism by holding lectures and special fairs in schools.
In an attempt to develop the experience of voluntary work, KRCS established an all-inclusive training program for prospective volunteers, which includes:
- An introductory lecture on the KRCS.
- Lectures on how to deal with people with special needs, patients and vulnerable families.
- A lecture on International Humanitarian Law.
- A lecture on the legal aspects of volunteering duties within Kuwaiti Law.
- A workshop on blood sugar, blood pressure and identifying blood type.
- Basic First Aid course.
- Intensive courses on Disaster and Emergency Management
The Youth and Volunteers Administration works in partnership with a number of governmental and non-governmental organizations including the International Federation of the Red Crescent and Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations Development Program, General Administration of Civil Defense, the Medical Emergency Administration, the General Administration of Firefighting, LOYAC and the Ministry of Youth Affairs among others.
